The Human Pavilion

November 2021

The Earle Ernst Lab Theatre

In this pared-down take on Seishin's text the scenography is minimal and synecdochic. Symbols of violence and colonization frame and hold up the debris of the conquered Ryūkyū Kingdom on display. The theatre becomes the cage (the pavilion) and a large projection screen displays historically-relevant images. The world tastes bitter, lime green, a warm memory turned sour and acrid.

NOTE: Show released as a filmed production due to COVID-19 pandemic.
